You can’t move beyond him or graduate from Jesus. You can’t get stuck into meatier stuff instead of him or exchange him for an absent theology. He’s not just to be worshipped but followed. He’s not just to be heard, but imitated.
He’s not just a man he contains the very secret of the Divine, we don’t understand God without him. As Christ he didn’t just appear as Jesus, but was there from the beginning and before and he masterminded the whole of the cosmos.
Take Jesus out, what you have is not a lot. His centrality and vibrant life within us steer us aright. We follow him all the way to Calvary to such an extent, we experience our own death and resurrection according to the pattern due.
