In case you didn’t know…the Officers Covenant:
MY COVENANT
CALLED BY GOD to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ as an officer of The Salvation Army,
I BIND MYSELF TO HIM IN THIS SOLEMN COVENANT: to love and serve him supremely all my days, to live to win souls and make their salvation the first purpose of my life,
to care for the poor, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, love the unlovable, and befriend those who have no friends,
to maintain the doctrines and principles of The Salvation Army, and, by God’s grace, to prove myself a worthy officer.
Done in the strength of my Lord and Saviour, and in the presence of The Cheif of the Staff, the Territorial Commander, training college officers and fellow cadets.
Silly question follows. What are the principles of the Salvation Army? Are they a document or a general idea?Just asking as the Franciscan Order has Principles – fifty short paragraphs, one to be meditated on each day.
Orders and Regulations for Officers and the Orders and Regulations for Corps Officers outline not only the day to day runnings of aspects ot the Army, but outline what an officer should strive to attain with regards to spiritual things, passion for the lost, commitement to the fight, etc etc.
…not forgetting Chosen to be a Soldier (Orders and Regulations for Soldiers) and the Handbook of Doctrine! :o)
Thanks, will go hunting! The doctrines I’m familiar with, but I don’t think chosen to be a soldier was used in our recruits classes. :0)
